Forest Schools

Forest Schools at Hemingbrough Primary School

At Hemingbrough Primary School we run a Forest Schools activities from our own school grounds.

Forest School activities allow children to become comfortable with an outdoor approach to education and play in familiar surroundings.  The children have the opportunity to engage with hands-on learning in a natural environment.

Forest school sessions are fantastic at bringing out the potential of all children, especially those who struggle in the confines of the classroom. We’re passionate about our forest school and outdoor sessions as we see, time and again, the brilliant results that regular sessions can provide.

All of our forest school activities are designed to promote personal development, teamwork and leadership, as well as inspire an enduring passion for fresh air and the great outdoors.

All sessions are designed around the needs of  our classes, to ensure that they are learner-led. Sessions are sometimes designed around a theme, themes are sometimes subtle such as evolving or exploring the site or more obvious links to the National Curriculum such as History, Geography, Maths...

Teamwork skills are developed through games and activities. Individual skills and self-esteem are heightened throughout activities such as hide and seek, shelter building or environmental art, the list is endless. Each activity develops intra and inter-personal skills as well as practical and intellectual skills.

Throughout the year each class will have an opportunity to take part in forest school activities. These will take place outside in all weathers!

They will also make use of the outdoors on an ongoing basis to support and enrich the curriculum.

They will need to bring a change of clothing on these days: -

Outdoor/Warm Clothing (this is likely to get dirty!)

Change of footwear (old trainers/wellies)

Waterproof coat/jacket
